Nurses do not attend Colleges of Medicine. They attend programs in nursing. There are lots of nursing programs at state universities all around the country.
You do not have to be worrying about this at 12 years of age!!! What you have to do right now, is take care of yourself, do a good job in school and follwo some hobbies and activities that will help you to practice working with all kinds of people – that will be important when you become a nurse. You can do girl scouts, or church activities, or activities at school. Things that help other people and help you learn.
When you get to high school, take science and math courses and try hard to get good marks. But try to do a good job in all your classes. You will be able to find a job helping out at a hospital or nursing home, and that will give you some more understanding of what nurses do on the job.
By the time you are 17 or 18 and you are applying for nursing school, there will be lots and lots of information about it on the internet and you will have no trouble finding out every detail about what you want to know.
Duke is a wonderful school, but it might not be the right school for you. Give yourself time to decide!
I know you will make it and be a great nurse!
