Why are some degrees in Medicine 5 years and others are 6 years?

Some Unis like Imperial have a 6 year medicine degree whilst King’s has a 5 year degree course in Medicine. Why?
So the 5 year course is for the more intelligent people and the 6 year course just has a foundation year? What is general medicine?

the six year course is for people who dont have the right A levels for the 5 year course so do a foundation year after that it is the same as the 5 year course

  1. The 6 year courses usually have a foundation year, where you work on more general medicine. How the more intelligent/confident tend to go for the 5year course, just because it means you graduate a year early.
