i am 13 and this is … i am 13 and this is amazing to learn this i dont know but things with blood dont bother me this is very interesting and i want to learn more about this
Not true. … Not true. Combitubes are good because they can be put in with a blind insertion, but I think ET tubes are more useful. They don’t have the contraindications combitubes have and they don’t have latex. The state I live in won’t allow combitubes because they contain latex.
Our Chief Medical … Our Chief Medical Director doesn’t like combitubes anymore. He used to have no problem with them, now he doesn’t want us to have any.
That must explain … That must explain why I was sick to my stomach after the operation. I couldn’t eat anything, but my friend taking care of me kept trying to force me to.
I could hardly eat anything for a full 12 hours.
It’s the worst, most painful operation I ever had, and I don’t understand why everybody kept telling me it was nothing to have a gallbladder removed by laparoscopy.
I thought it was something.
Here in AZ there … Here in AZ there was a recent case with a trauma patient when a combitube produced an issue. A few minutes after insertion they began having compliance issues. It turns out that the ports of the combitube got clogged with coagulated blood. Had they known that they could have just put a new one in. They cric’ed the the guy (successfully) right before the helicopter got there.
But I agree, ET tubes are probably used over combitubes just so one can feel like a badass.
This was a great … This was a great video… thanks!
Little informal survey… I’ve always been a big fan of the Combitube / dual lumen (have never seen it not work on the first insertion), and cannot understand why, other than the challenge, one would use an ET instead. Open to enlightenment…
Cholecystectomy … Cholecystectomy patients are always intubated as the abdomen is filled with CO2 under a set pressure, this can cause you to regurgitate and for acidic stomach contents to enter your lungs. The ET tube (and the sealing cuff you see in this video) is the only safe type of airway, as nothing can get into the lungs. This helps to prevent the potential for significant lung damage from acidic stomach contents.
LMAs, are used for … LMAs, are used for minor surgeries, that don’t require a lot of drugs to parylize the patient. The ET tube, is only used when deeep sedation is required. This will most likely lead to the decrease use or even the complete use of LMAs during surgery, unless an airway is difficult, or something goes wrong very quickly. The LMA, is a less Invasive procedure, and carries less risks.
Yeah, intubation is … Yeah, intubation is also increasingly common in surgical procedures. It just makes it much easier for the whole team if the anesthesiologist has ALREADY oti’d the patient…you remove the danger of having to do it rapidly should the patient suddenly stop breathing
