What medical schools teach the abortion procedure?

Some jackass told me abortion doctors don’t have medical licenses, and no schools teach it.

I just need the names of a couple that do.

You were talking to a jack-ass. It is a medical procedure that would indeed be taught at ANY accredited medical school! Any doctor who is board-certified as a Gynecologist, and many who are not, have been trained to do this procedure….as part of training in medical school and in subsequent residencies as a med student.

Tell this fool that Harvard Medical School counts it among the procedures it teaches its’ well-trained doctors, as does the University of Virginia, and Johns-Hopkins, to name three of the finest in the country….

  1. It would be more likely to be taught in a gynecology residency after medical school.

  3. An "abortion doctor" is a gynecologist, which is certainly a licensed medical professional.

This procedure is taught during a gynecological internship or residency, usually after graduation though students may observe during clinical rotations in 3rd and 4th year and become familiar with the procedure. Procedures like this are not required of gynecologists, as some may not wish to perform it. However, they would still be knowledgeable about the process as some parts of the procedure are similar to a D&C, which is performed after a miscarriage.

The person you spoke with was misinformed.

    Abortion in Medical School Curricula
CROSSROADS: WHERE MEDICINE AND THE HUMANITIES MEET

Studies show that in a group of five women- your
mother, sister, aunt, daughter, girlfriend- two of them
will have an abortion by age forty-four (1). Although
this statistic varies by several factors including race and
marital status, abortion is one of the most commonly
performed surgical procedures in the United States and
    Canada (1, 2).
Abortion is a safe, legal and common procedure, yet
it is not routinely taught in medical schools (3, 4). In
fact, there are no requirements that abortion be included
in medical school curricula (5). Because it is so
common, it is important for medical students to learn
about abortion- the technical aspects of the different
types of procedures, as well as the social, global and
public health issues involved in abortion provision.
Regardless of an individual physician’s personal beliefs
about abortion, every physician has a responsibility to
help patients achieve optimal mental and physical
health, to inform patients of their reproductive health
options, and to serve as patient advocates. Only through
comprehensive education and training will future
physicians be able to meet the reproductive health needs
    of women.
