Stray dogs always …
Stray dogs always existed. This is not a ‘man made condition’, but a condition of Nature. Brits and Americans round up strays and put them in shelters. Although this puts the problem out of sight, the problem does not go away. Just like the problem of crime does not go away by building more prisons and locking up more people! Conditions for strays in Greek city streets are much better than their neutering and caging and eventual euthanasia in most British and American dog shelters
Some people makes …
Some people makes sweeping condemnations based on stray dogs in Greek cities. But is this a good basis to judge a society and its values? How about homelessness and crime and dog fighting and gang violence and school shootings? You see far less of that in Greece than in all other places. When was the last time you saw young attractive well dressed girls walking alone in city streets going home three o’clock in the morning, without fear and in total safety? I have, every summer I visit Greece.
Greeks deal with …
Greeks deal with strays differently. They believe in Nature, Freedom and Coexistence. Strays are free to roam in peaceful coexistence with their surroundings. Some see strays sleeping in the shady side of city streets offensive. I celebrate this and see in it the same spirit in modern Greeks as with their ancestors. Or don’t you believe that there were strays in Ancient Athens? Some may even have laid side by side with Socrates and Plato absorbing the wisdom that these critics lack.
jockm2, that …
jockm2, that comment of course was addressed to you and I will take the liberty of sending you some enlightening material.
I would imagine she …
I would imagine she has visited more places in Greece than the average visitor or Greek even. The preservation of one area does not justify the diobolical behaviour of what goes on in the rest of Greece.
jockm2 …….. …
jockm2 ……..Tourism is Greece’s No.1 industry! I wish people wouldn’t go to Greece anyway, as only if the Greeks were hit in their pockets may they begin to treat animals more humanely. Greece is over-rated, over-expensive … The Greeks have no respect for environment (drive into any part of Greek countryside and you’ll find piles of rubbish everywhere!), are generally very loud and vulgar … why would anybody want to visit such a backward country?!
I guess this lady …
I guess this lady has never visited the Pelion region which preserves its authentic Greek character. Greece in general has indeed sufered from mass tourism, as has many other Mediterranean countries.

efcvs, I couldnt …
efcvs, I couldnt have put it better myself. Another uneducated idiot who doesnt have a clue what’s going on. Why is it that so many greek men have such foul mouths?
Yet another “in …
Yet another “in denial” greek who doesnt know or care what is going on in his own country, and so eloquent as well. Get your head out of the sand and take a look at the numerous videos and documents about this “end of tourist season poisoning” that goes on year after year and carried out most noticeably just prior to the Athens 2004 Olympics.
