I think this school has some serious problems with ethical standards.

I’m sure if you’ve lived in bigger cities you would notice more crime going on….I lived in Iowa for 20 years….but now that I’ve lived in Norfolk Virginia for five years and I’ve had my car broken into twice, I’ve been held up at gunpoint, and I had a psycho girlfriend that slashed my tires….I’m sure it’s not as bad as you think

To get into Med School, anywhere, you need a Bachelor’s degree. Apply to OSU for the BA program, and then you can think about medical school later.

Havard medical school is one of the hardest medical schools to get admitted to. First you would need an almost perfect undergard GPA like 4.0. You would alot of community serviie eg voulounteering at a local hospital whiel you were in college. To become "smarter" for University/Medical school, I would advise you to break any bad habits, such as procrastinate, and learn proper time management and study skills. Also, don’t just limit your learning to when you’re taking a course. Try to learn during your free time, summer vacation, by accessing different resources.

The reason why I ask is that SUNY schools are my only options. My family can afford to send me to SUNY schools for now. Contrary to many people’s opinion, the undergraduate school that one attends has no bearing on whether you are accepted into a medical school. It may also surprise you that the medical school that one attends has no bearing on what residency program you can get into (assuming you attend a US or Canadian medical school). People who allege otherwise have never been on an admission committee or have any experience with the medical education system.

If you think about it, if certain schools (whether they were undergrad or medical schools) offered an advantage, there would be such an obvious path that there would be no debate. The reality is that little Johnny coming out of Podunk U has the same opportunities as Biff, the social elitist, coming out of the prep school. It’s all based on individual abilities, not the name of the school on the diploma.

1. It doesn’t have it’s own hospital, but it is affiliated with many in Boston.
House’s job doesn’t actually exist – no one does nothing but diagnosing. And hospitals, even teaching hospitals, take everyone, not just people who have weird problems.

4. They don’t take students out of high school. You need a 4-year college degree to apply to any medical school. You don’t have to get that degree from Harvard to get into Harvard for med school.

5. For your undergrad degree, Harvard turns down thousands of 4.0 students, perfect SAT scorers, and valedictorians every year. Having great grades is necessary, but they don’t need to be perfect and that alone won’t get you in.

Your question is impossible to answer, as you haven’t provided any criteria to make a decision. What makes one school better than another for any individual is subjective.

If you think one medical school is better than another based on the education one receives, you are misinformed. All schools are accredited and must meet the same standards or risk losing their accreditation. The efficacy of the instruction is measured in test scores taken during the classes and at the USMLE. There is no statistical differences between any of the 125 US medical schools.

If you want to argue about Harvard being better than the University of Iowa, then you should educate yourself on how Harvard earned its reputation. It’s not due to the medical school. I used to work at John Hopkins–it’s rep has nothing to do with its medical school, either.

If you think you have a shot at getting into a medical school, then you ought to be thinking seriously about a school where you have a reasonable chance of being accepted. You have mentioned California and Florida schools–if you aren’t a resident of the state, your odds of being accepted are diminished–regardless of how strong a candidate you are. Of course, private schools don’t care because everybody will be paying 2-3 times the tuition they would pay if they attended their own state’s university.

But if you have your own criteria, re-ask your question.
