My kitten is currently on Revolution but I have noticed her scooting on the ground, which is a sign of parasites. I have an appointment for her at my vet to check if she has parasites. Anyway, I did not realize Revolution did not cover all worms. What medicine or combination of medicines, like Advantage Multi for cats, is best to prevent heartworms, ring worms, hook worms, other worms, fleas, tickes, and ear mites?

Revolution is a very good general medication. It covers fleas, ticks,e ar mites and most internal parasites. However, it does not cover tape worms. You may need to have your kitten dewormed for tapeworms separately. Especially if the kitten is from a barn environment or is allowed to hunt. Ringworm is not an actual worm but rather a fungus, so it can’t be covered with a routine dewormer but rather is prevented by providing a clean environment for the kitten and treated only if infected.

Why are some degrees in Medicine 5 years and others are 6 years?

Some Unis like Imperial have a 6 year medicine degree whilst King’s has a 5 year degree course in Medicine. Why?
So the 5 year course is for the more intelligent people and the 6 year course just has a foundation year? What is general medicine?

the six year course is for people who dont have the right A levels for the 5 year course so do a foundation year after that it is the same as the 5 year course

Do you think complementary medicine keeps up well more effectively than traditional medicine? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both different forms of medicine?

I’ve got to do a presentation on ‘Complementary medicine VS traditional medicine’ so just trying to get as much feedback on the subject as possible!

Complementary med, covers a huge amount of ground… homoeopathy, reflexology, chiropractic, theraputic touch, magnets, acupuncture, etc, etc ad nauseum

I have looked at a few ‘complementary medicines’. I actually have read up a lot on the theory of Homoeopathy.
and… there is no evidence that much of it works, except as a placebo

obviously, some things are effective in certain circumstances, such as chiropractic may help with some back problems…. trouble is, that is used WAY beyond it’’s remit, and can actually exacerbate some problems

other therapies, such as TT have been proved as rubbish time and again… In the US there was a famous experiment by a 9 year old girl who showed that TT is basically smoke and mirrors.

so… you have to name the individual ‘comps’ before you can actually say "this is nonsense" or "this has some limited merit"

but, to sum it up…… the benefits to mankind from modern medicine outweigh any benefits from ‘comps’ by many, many, MANY orders of magnitude

The antoxidative properties of water hyacinth leaves were investigated by evaluating the scavenging capacity of liquid extracts in a competitive protective process against oxygenated free radicals (OFRs) released via electrolysis in a phosphate buffer with a Pt electrode. Colorimetric measurements carried out at 515 nm, through a N,N-diethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (DPD) assay, showed a decreased absorbance of the sample, as compared to the blank obtained by electrolysis of the buffer without plant extract, revealing, thereby, the presence of antioxidizing agents in the liquid extracts. The antioxidative activity was estimated in terms of equivalent-glutathione (EG, in nmoles equivalent-glutathione per gram of dry plant material selected (eg/gdp)), and compared to those of soya beans and garlic bulbs. The EG value increased with decreasing dilution factors, regardless to the plant type, suggesting a strong influence of the medium pH on the antioxidizing agent extraction yields. Various plant drying procedures, namely: sunlight exposure (at 25–30 °C), heating (40 and 60 °C) and freeze-drying (at –70 °C) were also examined. The highest EG (ca. 40 nmol eg/gdp) was observed for freeze-dried leave extract, while the lowest value was obtained upon heating at 60 °C (16–17 nmol eg/gdp), presumably due to a detrimental effect of increased temperature. The glutathione content in the plant extracts was further determined spectroscopically at 412 nm, through an enzymatic assay, using glutathione reductase. Small but interesting contents of glutathione (ca. 40 nmol eg/gdp) were found in the hyacinth leaves, making this plant to be regarded as an alternative and convenient low-cost raw material for antioxidizing agent recovery.

The doctors told us to try it for two weeks and if it doesnt work we have to put her to sleep. How long does medicine take (usually) to work for dogs? We started her on it last thursday and shes still feeling ill…

I’ve heard Bio-oil is the best for scars and stretch marks. My mother used it for her surgical scarring. It’s fairly expensive, about £10 for a small pot and approximately £20-25 for the larger. Use everyday morning and night, will take about 10 weeks to show difference.

They go hand in hand. You get anxious about something and after some time it becomes depressed over that same thing. In both cases, when the nerve ends send messages to the next nerve thru a gap, these messages don’t get there, they sort of bounce back to their origin. This is what’s called a chemical imbalance in the brain. These messages are sent via chemicals ‘jumping’ from one nerve end to the other. I need a different medicine to help me fall asleep. I tried melatonin but that medicine made me feel too groggy in the morning and I also tried Ambien CR, but it doesnt keep me asleep. I cant take any of the tylenol pm med either.
I live in an apartment, and the lady underneath me is sooo loud. I have tried my ipod, warm bath, relaxing….. I tried a natural sleep rememdy and it made me too tired in the morning! Whenever I eat anything spicy or cold, I get stomache cramps. Sometimes with vomiting. It always lasts about 20 hours and no medicine works, all I had to do is waiting for it to go away. Is there any good medicine that can help relieve the pain instantly?

Well, you probably shouldn’t eat those foods. Tums might help. It is difficult to say what might help because it isn’t clear what is causing your vomiting. Is it acid refux or an ulcer or IBS or something else? See, that’s why people go to doctors because often symptoms can be a number of different things.
