And would it only be that year or is it possible someone would want to dissect more than once in a different year of med school?

Human Anatomy (the course in which they dissect bodies) is typically taken in the first semester of medical school.

Students may use cadavers in subsequent semesters of medical school to practice procedures or to examine specialized anatomical structures.

After medical school, how long is residency, fellowship, internship and etc.?

The sad part about plastic surgery is that there is no extra training required. Any quack who’s got an M.D. can perform plastic surgery (which is why you hear those horror stories about plastic surgery nightmares). Your residency/fellowship/internship all depend on what hospital/clinic you do them at, but it will be at least a couple more years.

“Planning a Life in Medicine” by The Princeton Review. This book is one of the basics that discuss the steps towards making it into medical school and fully details the areas one should focus on to prepare for such a venture.

“Med School Confidential” by Robert H. Miller & Daniel M. Bissell,M.D. This book, too, details and outlines the steps for an undergraduate to take to make it into medical school and succeed as a medical student.

“The Intern Blues” by Robert Marion, M.D. This particular piece details three interns (post-med school) and the trials and tribulations they face in the pediatric wards as they work towards surviving their first year as doctors.

“Emergency Doctor” by Edward Ziegler. A work that describes life and experiences as an emergency physician.

“Becoming a Doctor” Melvin Konner, M.D. This is probably one of my favorites as it shows the reader the journey to becoming a doctor as a 33 year old man who already had created a life for himself, yet decides he wants more than the life he has worked so hard to achieve.

Now.. I know most of these do not give advice as to how to make it into medical school or even through it, but I love these books because they show the reader exactly what you can expect once you reach the point that you are required to actually put to show the information and knowledge you have required in medical school.

Im currently an undergrad and I heard that many undergrad biology majors (which is what I am) seem to have lower chance of getting in, since there are so many of them applying to medical school. SO I wanted to know if there’s another science major (like Physical Therapy, Physicians Assistant, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) that I should switch to, to improve my chances of acceptance?

People who claim that a biology major has a lesser chance of being accepted into a medical school because there are so many biology majors applying might as well claim that brunettes have a lesser chance than blondes because there are more brunettes.

Biology is still the prevalent major of medical school applicants, but only because of the mistaken belief that medical schools prefer biology majors. The only preference is by a research oriented medical school and they prefer applicants with advanced degrees in any of the life sciences. Many of the primary care oriented schools are now stating on their web sites that they prefer applicants to only take the prerequisite courses and pursue majors in other areas of interest, unless the person’s interest is one of the life sciences.

Acceptance into a medical school is completely on individual merit. Admission committees do not care what your major was, what school you attended, how many clubs you were president of or any of the numerous allegations you can read on Yahoo! Answers.

An admission committee has two responsibilities: select applicants who have demonstrated the academic ability to successfully manage the rigorous medical school curriculum and to select applicants who will become good physicians. The concrete criteria (GPA’s and MCAT) enable them to rapidly screen applicants who can do well academically, but it’s the enigmatic "well-rounded" aspect that is difficult to qualify.

Some docs do graduate school before or after medical school. Medical school is post-graduate education in medicine only. Graduate school is post-graduate education in just about anything.

My transcrip is "crazy" all these F grades, but i have redone all those classes and got A’s on all of them. My currently gpa is 3.8. Will any of the medical shool accept me after all of those F grades i’ve gotten althought i’ve retaken all of those classes. My major is Computer Science.

Your chances at a US med school are really not good. I highly doubt you’ll get in. Lots of Ws, lots of Fs, lots of retakes – that’s not good.

You’re welcome to apply to med school, but be prepared with a backup plan, because it’s really unlikely that you’ll get in.

I plan on going to medical school and I also want to get some experience. I was wondering what are some jobs that I can work in the medical field. Not only will this give me experience, but it will also look good on my resume when applying to medical school.

Become an E.M.T. I am in Nursing School right now, but I became certified as an E.M.T my Freshman year of college and it was the best thing I ever did. You get tons of hands on experience, and you really do learn a lot. I know a couple of people that took their E.M.T class their senior year of high school…you just can’t take your test till you are 18. After you have your E.M.T-B you can go on and get your E.M.T-I in some states which allows you to perform I.V’s. I don’t know what kind of Physician you are wanting to be (E.R, Family…etc.) but it really does give you an edge, and the experience and knowledge you will gain looks really good on a resume.
